Welcome Back, Calum!

We are thrilled to announce that Calum has rejoined our team after taking time away to focus on restorative endodontics. Many of you may remember Calum from his previous role as a general dentist with us. He left approximately five years ago to specialise in root canal treatments. Now, we are delighted to have him back at No9 to provide these essential services.

Calum brings a wealth of experience to our practice. His expertise will enhance our ability to offer patients informed choices about saving their teeth with root treatments or opting for implants and bridges. Working alongside Peter and Neil, we can ensure that our patients receive the best possible care and advice.

Advanced Techniques by Endodontist

Microscope for Enhanced Precision

Calum now utilises a dental microscope for all his endodontic procedures. This advanced tool allows him to see inside each tooth with remarkable clarity. By using a microscope, Calum can ensure that the roots are filled as thoroughly as possible. This precision is crucial for successful outcomes in root canal treatments.

3D X-ray Technology for Accurate Planning

In addition to the microscope, Calum employs 3D x-ray technology (CBCT) to enhance his treatment planning. This imaging technique simplifies the process of root canal treatment. With 3D x-rays, Calum can accurately determine the number of roots each tooth has and their orientation. This information is vital for effective treatment.

The Importance of Root Canal Treatments

Root canal treatments are essential for preserving natural teeth. They can save a tooth that is infected or damaged, preventing the need for extraction. Many patients are unaware of the benefits of these treatments. With Calum's expertise, we aim to educate our patients about their options.

Understanding the Procedure

The root canal procedure involves removing the infected pulp from inside the tooth. After cleaning and disinfecting the area, the tooth is filled with a biocompatible material. Finally, the tooth is sealed to prevent future infections. This process can alleviate pain and restore function, allowing patients to keep their natural teeth.

When to Consider a Root Canal

Patients should consider a root canal if they experience severe tooth pain, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, or swelling around the gums. These symptoms may indicate an infection that requires immediate attention. Early intervention can save the tooth and prevent further complications.

Choosing Between Root Canals and Implants

While root canals are often the preferred option for saving a tooth, there are cases where extraction and replacement with an implant may be necessary. Calum, Peter, and Neil will work closely with patients to discuss the best options for their individual situations.
