Early child orthodontics assessment can make a significant difference to your child's long-term dental health. We recommend that children be seen for an orthodontic consultation from around the age of seven, when any developing alignment concerns can be identified early. Addressing issues at the right stage of growth can often simplify — or even prevent — more extensive treatment later on.

For younger patients, fixed braces remain a tried and trusted option. These are bonded to the teeth and work continuously to move teeth into the correct position. Our team takes great care to make every child's experience as comfortable and positive as possible, ensuring they feel relaxed and involved throughout their dental implant journey.

Following active treatment, retainers play a vital role in keeping teeth in their new position. We provide guidance on retainer wear for all our younger patients to protect the results achieved.

How do we complete the treatment?
The treatment involves taking detailed impressions, which are sent to a special lab. Here a plan for treatment is accurately processed and a 3D computer image of the proposed changes is sent back to us. This will be reviewed by your dentist to assess its suitability.

When he is happy you will be shown a digital smile preview of your result on a large screen and can approve you are happy to go ahead.

After this the aligners to move your teeth will be 3D printed and you will come back to have your first aligner fitted. You will wear this all day and night, except when eating. Aligners are changed by yourself weekly, and we will see you regularly to check that your teeth are moving in step with your digital plan.
Orthodontic FAQs
How long will orthodontic treatment take?
This depends on how much your teeth need to move but will most likely be between 2 and 10 months. The great thing about Invisalign is that even if your treatment is not finished before a special event, few people will notice you are wearing the aligners, and they can be removed for short periods of time.

How much do invisible braces cost?
Again, this depends on your treatment plan. It will usually cost between £1,000 and £3,000. This will include all your planning; the design and creation of your aligners; regular review appointments to ensure your teeth are moving safely and correctly; and long term retainers which will mean your teeth will remain straight for a lifetime.

What if I lose my clear aligner?
We will always encourage you to keep the previous aligner you were wearing and will provide a box for you to keep this in. If you lose your current aligner, you can go back to your previous one and we can have a new one printed to replace the one you have lost.

How do I keep my teeth clean during treatment?
You can brush your teeth normally and clean your aligners with a toothbrush in the same way. You will usually change to a fresh aligner each week and we will give you ongoing advice.

Do I need a referral to book an orthodontic consultation?
No referral is needed. You can contact us directly to arrange a consultation at our Uphall practice, conveniently located for patients across West Lothian including Livingston.
Are retainers included in the cost of treatment?
Yes — long-term retainers are included as part of your treatment plan. Wearing your retainer as advised is the best way to ensure your results last a lifetime.
Can orthodontics be combined with other treatments?
Absolutely. Many patients choose to combine orthodontics with teeth whitening or a wider smile makeover. We can discuss a tailored treatment plan during your consultation.
Do you offer fixed braces for children?
Yes. We offer fixed braces for child orthodontic patients where clinically appropriate, alongside a full assessment of your child's individual needs.
